Hello, all.  Sorry I've been absent, I've been resting with a sinus infection.  I'm feeling a little more energetic today, and it's good to be back.

I LOVE Beethoven.  I used to play in orchestras, in high school, college and some of my young adulthood.  I always enjoyed playing Beethoven.  The first Beethoven I played was the 6th symphony, at a music camp out in the woods one summer.  It completely changed how I experienced classical music.  But my other favorites have also been mentioned, the 7th symphony and the Moonlight Sonata.  Though, truthfully, I love all of his piano music, and envy anyone who can play them justly!

Dear Lori, I hope you will soon make a full recovery.

Beethoven is my husband's and my favorite composer. While listening to the radio we often try to guess who composed what we are hearing. I am always tickled, when I recognize something and he does not since he studied music and I did not! He tells me that they analyzed Beethoven's works in great detail, BUT they missed the Choral Phantasy!

Have a great and healthy weekend,
Love,  Edda

Listening to uplifting music is a good way to lift our spirits when we feel overwhelmed by life's demands (as we see it!). I am reminded of a quote that can be helpful at such times.
Alchemist

It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. To affect the quality of the day - that is the highest of arts

~ Henry David Thoreau

Juliana

That is quite perceptive of you as I also have this in mind during my morning meditations.
Here is another quote which can help get the day off to a good start.

Alchemist

Instead of focusing on what you lack and complaining about it, thank the Creator every day out of gratitude for all he gives you. This magic secret will transform your life. By learning to give thanks in this way, you enhance the love and light within you, and this love and light are reflected in all your actions. You see the world with new eyes. You have a better attitude toward the people you encounter, and they open to you because they sense the peace and joy that emanate from you.

Thank you once more, Alchemist! The main point with valuable quotes like this one is to find out how they relate to our personal life and biography. It takes meditation to see where there is proof for their truth in our experience, as well as what there is still waiting to be done in the way of change...

I found this quote that I liked that I wanted to share.

The main thing is to keep
the main thing the main thing.

My thoughts on this include the fact that all of us are hard wired to love.  The main thing is love and to keep love as the main thing, just like Jude's signature  "Love is the only way".

Man Carves Wife a 6,000 Stair Path in Mountain

A weird love story has come out of China recently and managed to touch the world.  It is a story of a man and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half century.

Over 50 years ago, Liu was a 19 years-old boy who fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu.  At the time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman.

To avoid the market gossips, the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern ChongQing area.

In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even food.  They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used to lighten up their lives.

Started the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began, and continued for over 50 years, to hand carve the steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

A half century later in 2001, a group of adventures were exploring the forest, they surprisingly found the elderly couple and the over 6,000 stairs of hand carved ladder.

“My parents loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over 50 years and never been apart a single day.” Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, “He hand carved more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother’s convenience, although she doesn’t go down the mountain that much.”

The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years until last week. Liu, now 72 years-old, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband as he passed away in her arms.

So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no one was able to release the grip he had on his wife’s hand even after he had passed away.

“You promised me you’ll take care of me, you’ll always be with me until the day I died, now you left before me, how am I going to live without you?” … …

Xu spent days softly repeating this sentence and touching her husband’s black coffin with tears rolling down her cheeks.
In 2006, their story had became one of the top 10 love stories from China, collected by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government has decided to preserve the “love ladder” and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

Thankful One, what a very special story and what a tremendous gift of love. Often times, it is the hardships of life that bring true love to its most sparkling luster. Thank you for posting the story.

Thankful One,
A hearty thank you from me, too. It is a beautiful love story, and I know that such stories do happen, rare as they may be today. In my German lessons, I used to discuss the topic of love with my students, who were 14- to 17-year-old girls. We used to read literature dealing with the theme. Usually they would protest, saying  that times had changed and such true love was not possible any longer.  Now, years later, I am often surprised by meeting one of them, who says, "You were right. I am happily married..." The mother of one of those students died soon after she had left school. I then invited her to see me whenever she wanted.  When she was 19, she met a young man and got engaged to him the same evening. All her relatives protested. About a year later I got a letter reading, "If I may be your daughter, you will be a grandmother in June..." David and Judith are 14 and 12 now, and they call me "Oma" ( = Granny).  Their parents are still happily married...

Dearest "Oma,"

I liked your story very much about the girl who now calls you Grandma. It is touching.

The story shows the kind of person you are and how people react to your generosity and kindness when they are going through difficult times.

I wanted to send you some wedding flowers in honor of your story. Besides the red and white roses are some small white Stephanotis flowers. The Stephanotis is a traditional wedding flower that carries the meaning "happiness in marriage."

Some people say that being a grandparent is one of the things in life that is not overrated. What do you or any other grandparents think of this statement?

One can never have too many flowers. The nice thing about electronic flowers is they never wilt, require water, hurt the environment, or cost anything!

They are great fun to send because it brings a little more beauty into our lives which is especially necessary for people who have to stay indoors because of the snow.

I firmly believe in the following quotation.

I'd rather have roses on my table than diamonds around my neck - Emma Goldman

Thankful One,
Thank you for the flowers, especially the wedding flowers. On my wedding day my husband-to-be forgot to get them as is the custom here, so I found some roses in the small mountain village and made myself a bouquet. Although there were no Stephanotis in it - I gladly accept them in the picture bouquet now -  we were blessed with 22 years of happy married life, the memories of which are still my source of strength and courage.

Grandparents are very important in the lives of children. Do you have what we here call "Leihoma" and "Leihopa", grandparents "to rent", so-to-speak? People who offer to spend time with children who have no grandparents of their own?

Thankful one, I agree totally with what Emma Goldman says about roses and diamonds. I try always to have flowers in the house and I think nothing of diamonds!!

As for Grandparents, I didn't know mine so I think of them as being VERY special people indeed.

Today, I woke up and there was snow everywhere! It all looked so nice and quiet and clean. So I get to be inside a little more than normal so I thought I would share with you some orchids to brighten each of your days.
Special thanks to Marie for all her posts that never fail to make me laugh.
