I cannot say that I enjoy the snow very much. I did enjoy being invited to a friend's house to watch 2 movies. The movies ended up not being that great but it was so nice to feel comfortable with these friends.

I think the greatest gift you can give someone is to allow them to be who they really are without pretense and to show them who you are in your heart.

When you can be comfortable in someone else's house, that is a sign of real respect for them. When that happens, it is real friendship and should be treasured.

I have a "freezer" in my mind that I fill with wonderful memories. When I get "hungry" for something positive or good, I pull these memories out and "chew on them" for a while. The cool thing is that these memories cannot be chewed up and remain just as good the next time.

May each of you have a full freezer of wonderful memories of times loving and being loved. Here's a freezer memory for you - You are loved! You are gentle, sweet and caring! You richly deserve love, wonder and beauty in your life!

Thankful one

The Invitation   It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Dear friends,

I received this from a friend and managed to get it over here. But the cursor simply wouldn´t allow me to add a word of my own! The appearance of the letters has been changed , too.

The text may be known to you, but I thought it´s always good to be reminded.
Moreover, it reminds me that what we know about one another here is what counts - and there are things that we do not need to know. Do you agree?

Thank you, Juliana! I remember reading this somewhere some time ago, but it is good to have it again in front of my eyes. It emphasizes so beautifully what is really important!

Thankful One, thank you for posting that breathtaking picture.  It's beautiful.

Juliana, I hadn't read this text from the Invitation in a very long time.  Thank you for reminding me of it.

Thankful One,
I like all your pictures, but the last two are absolute favorites with me! I find them incredibly poetic, inspiring  poems... "Swinging in the right direction" and "Only that day dawns to which we are awake"  link up so well with Alchemist´s morning meditation "Listen to the exhortation of the dawn" ("Today I am grateful for...", p.62, post of 3/3/08). From now on this meditation will for me be enriched by the pictures of dawn and the girl on the swing. Thank you!

An often repeated story that is worth rereading.

The Brick

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door!

He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"

The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister… please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop…"

With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car.

"It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up." Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts.

A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.

"Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar.

The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message.

"Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!"

God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us.

It's our choice to listen or not.
