Dear Mary, please don't hate yourself! You are just human and in the company of many who don't succeed at first! Willpower alone may not work for you. Prayers are heard -  God answers with providing us with a variety of means to help ourselves. I pray that you find the one that is right for you!
With every good wish,
Edda

Dear Dove,

I really would like to consult you. I know it very well, when you decided to stop smoking, but your body is crying for nicotin very, very loudly.
I needed many attempts to stop smoking finally without too many problems.
Please keep on going, Dove, - try to find the right programm, the right people, the right website to help you quiting it without heavy problems.
Maybe it helps you to write here and light candles even as a smoker. In your inner heart you are jet a nonsmoker, aren´t you ?

Love
Marie

Dear Dove: Even though I've written earlier about how I quit smoking five years ago, I still have a problem: PEPSI! My triglycerides are high and my doctor would like me to get off the stuff since my heart is in bad shape, but I just can't. Yesterday at lunch I drank what I had planned on being my last one; then at dinnertime, I ran out and got another twelve-pack. I've cut down a little, but I'm having a big problem stopping altogether since I find it so refreshing. So ... don't feel like a failure, cigarettes are your challenge, but most people have theirs. I know I do.

Praying that you are able to quit soon,
Emil

Dear Emil,
for me it´s the same: I stopped smoking in December, but I still have my addictions: To often alcohol and to much fat food. I try to handle this problem as well as I can. I don´t want to forbid me everything, but even not allow every damaging thing.
I think a deep faith can help us to get rid of our addictions. The heart of every religion is inner freedom. As a Christian I try to become free from my addictions, free to meet Christ.

Dear Dove: We look at addictions in a similar fashion. I, too, think that they stand in the way of being a better Christian. But, oh, it's so much easier saying, "I'm going to stop that bad habit," than actually doing it.

Continue on, and we will continue to support you and pray for you.

With love,
Emil

Hello,

after 8 months of quiting smoking I can say that it is no more a problem for me to live without any cigarettes. I´m very grateful for this new freedom, but I know I have to be aware, that there is always a danger to fall back, for example when there are too extrem emotions.

Since I stopped smoking, I like to reward myself with a nice meal and a glas of wine. Now I see that this can also become an addiction. I have some kilos more and there are evenings when I drink to much.

Now I try to change this without being to strictly: I like to go jogging and eat more fatless things like fruits and vegetables. Because I hope that I don´t have real problems with alcohol, I try to reduce it: Only with others and never more than 1 Beer or one glas of wine. Because of depressions and a mania in earlier years I have to take medicine, so it would be double good to reduce alcohol...

Are there others, who want to live more healthy and more mindful?

I would like to support each other on a good way

Love

Marie

Dear Marie, thank you for your progress report. Telling others of your way of managing cessation of smoking may help them to find their own way. I am sure they appreciate your support!
Have a great weekend,
Love,  Edda

Hello,

after nine months since I stopped smoking I really forgot about it. I feel healthy and free again and I want to motivate everybody who wants to quit smoking:
It´s possible! You will forget the flavour, but you will never forget the damage it caused you. You will miss nothing at all...

Hallo all gratefull people,

now it is almost one year that we started this candle group "Nosmo".
I`m still very happy as a nonsmoker and I enjoy an allmost smokefree surrounding.

You are invited to support our group by lighting a candle here:

http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=nosmo

Please try to help your family and friends to stop smoking.
Maybe through you they can find their new way to freedom and peace.

Marie

Congratulations, Marie! I am glad you are still persevering in not smoking! Once my brother said in less than perfect English, "I don't fume!" Perhaps this word expresses better what smokers are doing!

Wishing you everything good,
Edda

Hello to all!
I am happy to light a candle instead of a cigarette.
This is a wonderful idea! I actually did light a candle in the REFF
group to give God my gratitude for carrying me this past week
as smoking related illness struck me in a very scary way! I have been
smoke free since 10/11/07 when I began to have breathing difficulty.
By the following wednesday I could not breathe well and was at my
doctors getting breathing treatments etc....I was very scared this time
and now accept I can smoke or I can breathe but there is no safe way for
me to do both....so keep me in your prayers as I face not smoking 1 day
at a time. The gratitude thread has also been a wonderful support for me.

Hello All,
2 weeks ago I felt really angry that I was sick again... then I realized I was  sad and scared because in my heart I knew I had to give up smoking to continue to breathe...
Today I am 2 weeks smoke free and am beginning to be more positive...I have had a lot of support from others who are also quitting. I am so happy to have this group to add as a support. Many thanks to all the angels who are sent each day to help us on our way!

Hello dear gratefull people,

in ten days, on Saturday the 17th of November, this little group will celebrate it´s first birthday.

So it would be beautiful to meet  during this day  here in the forum to talk with each other, change experiences  and  light many, many candles instead of damaging cigarettes...

...every tiny candle tells a full story of hope...

Love

Marie
