Oh Marie
I love the photo thank you for posting this can you tell me more about where the temple is...I attend temple hee in Chicago it is small church converted to a temple i dont go as consistently as I would like however do meditate at home daily....Ironically, the anniversary of your group falls on my dad's birthday so I will remember as he died from smoking related lung cancer that is why I am trying so hard to quit now as I was having lots of lung related illness too...so light an incense as I request my ancestors to help me avoid the suffering of smoking.

Hello Namaste (is this your name?) and others,

thank you for your mail. I´m sorry, I found this photo in the net so I don`t know where this temple is. But I think everywhere where people light candles and pray is a beautiful temple.
On December the 6th we will think of your father and pray for him and for all victims of smoking.
Ì`m sure, if you really want to quit smoking, you are able to do so. All together I needed many years for stopping and starting again, but now I´m quite sure that there will be no more cigarette in my life.

Love

Marie

Hello,

before you light your next cigarette, take you one second time and think about it. Maybe you want to try to light a candle instead of a cigarette.
This could be the first step to become a happy nonsmoker.

Hello Marie
It has been awhile since I wrote my name is Barbara but I sign off Namaste the Buddha and the saying are one of my favorites Im happy to share that I am today 47 days smoke free and the stress of not smoking and the craving is easing up the ability to light the candles here was helpful too...I wish all who visit here well and their opinions should be well considered and used for helping smokers become recovered and free.

Sound of Silence -> RE: light a candle instead of a cigarette (12/6/2007 12:14:19 PM)

Exactly one year ago I stopped smoking with the help of our candlegroup.
Now I feel really healthy, confident and gratefull. To stop smoking is not easy, but it made me strong to fight against other addictions or habits.
I know that I am free to change my life as I want it.

Blessings to each of you...I too have not smoked a cigarette in a long time, yet I think of myself as "not smoking today." Breathing long deep breaths, similar to those I breathed when inhaling tobacco, but breathing in what I choose to become part of my body...peace, blue, light,...and holding that breath within me...as I did when smoking...yet knowing that this relaxing, healing breath brings me life and relaxation and peace...has helped me through these years.  I found that what I missed most about smoking was the long, relaxing inhales, held long enough to bring a bodily experience of stillness.  I found that I could experience that without the cigarette.  I could experience that with my breath and my focused imagination of peace.
Love,
Linda

Hildegard -> RE: light a candle instead of a cigarette (12/12/2007 10:59:27 PM)

Welcome to the forum, Linda! Thank you for sharing your experience about no longer smoking. I have never smoked but support all those who work on stopping. There is just nothing healthy about it. It pains me when I see teenagers smoking not concerned about the harm they are doing to themselves. The addictive power is amazing. A friend's husband had a stroke but is still smoking!

Wishing you everything good,
Edda

Dear Lynn,
congratulations for 16 days free of smoke. You have just started a new life with fresh air, wonderful flavours and smells, without disturbing others and in good health.

Go on, it´s beautiful. The difficult moments are passing by very soon. I had no problems after one month.

*Happy Face* -> RE: light a candle instead of a cigarette (1/5/2008 9:48:11 PM)

I am against smoking too. Back in 1987, I almost lost one
of my uncles to smoking,He almost had a massive heartattack. Thankful, after that.He quit smoking.
But his mother has not.And she's a diabetic and it's
scares because his mother is also my aunt.I know
weird;Huh?,I'm not going to start a topic on my family history right now. Anyways, smoking's bad and I have
alot of relatives who smoke. I just hope one day they
all quit before they end up getting sick from it....
