Today I Smiled

Today I smiled, and all at once

Things didn't look so bad..

Today I shared someone else,

A bit of hope I had.

Today I sang a little song,

And felt my heart grow light.

And walked a happy little mile

With not a cloud in sight.

Today, I worked with what I had

And longed for nothing more.

And what had seemed like only weeds,

Were flowers at my door.

Today, I loved a little more

And complained a little less.

And in the giving of myself

I forgot my weariness!

We'll See

Once upon a time, there was a farmer. He didn't have a lot of money and, instead of a tractor, he used an old horse to plow his field.

One afternoon, while working in the field, the horse dropped dead. Everyone in the village said, "Oh, what a horrible thing to happen." The farmer said simply, "We'll see." He was so at peace and so calm, that everyone in the village got together and, admiring his attitude, gave him a new horse as a gift.

Everyone's reaction now was, "What a lucky man." And the farmer said, "We'll see."

A couple days later, the new horse jumped a fence and ran away. Everyone in the village shook their heads and said, "What a poor fellow!"

The farmer smiled and said, "We'll see."

Eventually, the horse found his way home, and everyone again said, "What a fortunate man."

The farmer said, "We'll see."

Later in the year, the farmer's young boy went out riding on the horse and fell and broke his leg. Everyone in the village said, "What a shame for the poor boy."

The farmer said, "We'll see."

Two days later, the army came into the village to draft new recruits. When they saw that the farmer's son had a broken leg, they decided not to recruit him.

Everyone said, "What a fortunate young man."

The farmer smiled again - and said "We'll see."

Moral of the story: There's no use in overreacting to the events and circumstances of our everyday lives. Many times what looks like a setback, may actually be a gift in disguise. And when our hearts are in the right place, all events and circumstances are gifts that we can learn valuable lessons from.

The greatest privilege God gives to you is the freedom
to approach Him at any time. You are not only authorized
to speak to Him: you are invited.
You are not only permitted;
you are expected.
God waits for you to communicate with Him.
You have instant, direct access to God.
God loves mankind so much,
and in a very special sense His children,
that he has made Himself available to you at all times.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with Sister Patricia Proctor on the telephone.
I expected to call and leave her a message and would wait for her call back to request permission to use this quote. To my surprise, Sister had answered the telephone and was more than happy to give permission to post it here. Sister Patricia is very caring and a delight to talk with and full of energy as you can see by the site.

LOVE

Two friends are discussing the possibility of love. "I thought I was in love three times," one friend says.

"How so?" his friend asks.

"Five years ago I deeply cared for a woman who wanted nothing to do with me."

"Was that not love?" his friend asks.

"No," he replies. "That was obsession. And then two years ago I deeply cared for an attractive woman who didn't understand me."

"Was that not love?"

"No," he replies.

"That was lust.

And just last year I met a woman aboard a cruise ship to the Caribbean. She was smart, funny, and a great conversationalist. And everywhere I followed her on that boat, I would get this strange sensation in the pit of my stomach."

"Was that not love?" his friend asks.

"No," he replies. "That was motion sickness."

Kids Understand Love

Since a very long time ago, people have searched for the meaning of love. But even the great philosophers, with their profound definitions, could not fully touch its true essence.

In a survey of 4-8 year olds, kids share their views on love. But what do little kids know about love?

Read on and be surprised that despite their young and innocent minds, kids already have a simple but deep grasp of that four-letter word.

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

"Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don't yell at him because you know it would hurt his feelings."

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."

"Love is if you hold hands and sit beside each other in the cafeteria. That means you're in love. Otherwise, you can sit across from each other and be okay."

"Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redbird."

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."

"You can break love, but it won't die."

A long time ago God had a great many burdens that He wished to have carried from one place to another on Earth.  He asked the animals to lend a hand, but all of them had excuses for not helping: the elephant was too dignified; the lion, too proud; and so on...

Finally the birds came to God and said, "If you will tie the burdens into small bundles, we'll be glad to carry them for you.  We are small, but we would like to help."

So God fastened upon the back of each bird a small bundle, and they all set out walking across the plain to their destination. They sang as they went, not minding the weight of their burdens at all.

Every day the burdens seemed lighter and lighter, until the loads seemed to be lifting the birds, instead of the birds carrying the burdens.

When they arrived at their destination, they discovered that when they removed their loads, there were beautiful wings in their place.

Wings that enabled them to fly to the tree tops and soar through the sky, closer and closer to God.

The burdens we carry for others, as well as ourselves, become wings of the spirit, lifting us to new places and bringing us closer and closer to God.

May you always Soar
in spite of your Burdens!

Marie, the picture of the sheep in the hall reminds me of the years I worked for my cousin who is a farmer's wife. This scene was the absolute norm for her, and in the spring the kitchen and utility rooms would be filled to overflowing with lambs in boxes in various states of ill-health. Eight years after stopping work there I am just about starting to appreciate seeing lambs in the field again!!!!!!!!!!

But, on arrival at the farm each morning, I never knew what animal might be indoors. I love animals, but the farming life is not for me. Give me a few cats anyday.

Marie, I really like the quote, "The Earth Laughs in Flowers." Spring, despite all the setbacks, is asserting itself. Yesterday's three hours of warmth brought forth some daffodils!

Much love,
Edda

Jude, thanks for sharing your story of the sheep in the house. I liked the picture, but could not understand it. The sheep in the picture looks comfortable about being inside, he did not appear to be frazzled about it. Your story adds understanding to it, sheep can be in the house for a purpose. I won't take things for granted, always a new understanding to some things. Thank you.

Have a good day/evening by you.

Hello Edda, the quote "The Earth Laughs in Flowers", made me laugh. So you have a flower in your part of the world? How nice. My daffodils are less than an inch sprouting out of the ground, even after some loosening of the soil around them to allow some of the April showers in. While typing this I can see a few snow flurries/rain dwindling down and it is 39 degrees. It is funny, the people around here are all talking of the anticipation of spring, waiting for their yards to come around and and to see the earth laughing.

Soon....

Marie
