Thankful one -> The translucent revolution..... (1/19/2008 2:56:02 PM)

I have not read the following book yet, but I am ordering it. What is copied below is a friend's review of the book. The book got similar reviews on Amazon (see link below). The message from this review definitely speaks to my heart and some of my experiences.

"The translucent revolution: How people just like you are waking up and changing the world" (New World Library). The book is a credible analysis of his survey of hundreds of people who have gone beyond worshipping the new paradigm and are now living it and making a difference in the world as a result. Ardagh’s book is about the effects of applying the awakening.
The book begins by giving some stories of ordinary people who have had some type of peak experience that exemplify what he means by “translucent.” It reflects a state of consciousness in which the ego no longer blocks the higher consciousness from shining through. Higher awareness is not always present in these folks; they don’t go around in a state of bliss, but the awareness of oneness has become enough of a reality that their egos are no longer the director of their lives, but a servant of practical spirituality. As your read his descriptions of such folk, you may very likely find yourself to be among them.
The author notes surprise that his survey revealed that it is not mainly in offshoots of Eastern religion that he has found the translucents (as it may have been years ago), but in various self-help groups, churches, various volunteer organizations, and in many schools and businesses.
What happens when people experience themselves as connected with others rather than separate? Doing for others becomes the same as doing for oneself. Altruism loses its meaning for these people, because they don’t see it as sacrificing of oneself for someone else, but simply as sharing the abundance. Volunteerism is common among these folk, not because they aim to “do good,” but because it feels good to share and it comes naturally. Patience comes easily because being in the “flow,” being in harmony with how things naturally unfold, feels better than trying to assert oneself against “what is.” Yet there is an active allegiance to being a servant of an emerging world of peace and love.
When people experience themselves more as eternal consciousness than as a mortal “thing,” there is less of a need to be in control of their lives and they accept change as the status quo. There is less emphasis upon belief systems—something that people often use to achieve a sense of mastery over the great mystery of life, and something that often divides people. Instead translucents are more interested in experiencing heart connections with others and enjoying empathizing with various points of view. There is an openness, an acceptance, even a humor, about being imperfect, not out of a religious conviction of humans being a “fallen” species, but rather because it just doesn’t matter than much. What matters is what we can accomplish when we cooperate, a sentiment shared by many of us—a fact that supports the good news this book so well documents.

Hello Thankful one . . .
I was looking through some old threads and found this one. The book you mentioned has captivated me. I have recently read another book that I think, runs along this vein. It is called "A New Earth...Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" by Eckhart Tolle. The material in that book has really resonated with me. So excited was I when I read your post that I have gone to Amazon and ordered a copy of your book.
Thank you for this resource. I'll be on pins and needles until it arrives in the mail.
with love . . .

Sparrow, I was amused to read your post, as that is what I am inclined to do. Such is the power of the Internet, we can do things on the spur of the moment with just a click.[:D]

scary thought for people who are prone to impulsivity!
I used to be more that way, but through the years most of it has been burned out of me . . .

I'm really a very sensible and cautious person, but things like books and music take a bit more willpower!!

Sparrow, Jude, I, too, belong to the club who has a hard time resisting the temptation to order more books that sound interesting. A stack of not yet read books give witness to this! More books than time to read them!

Oh!!! It's so nice to meet fellow book fettishists (if there is such a word!) I'm an absolute sucker. I can't go into a charity shop without looking at the books. Fortunately they don't cost much there.
I too usually buy them second hand on amazon if possible. Sometimes the postage is more than the book.

Edda, I wouldn't dare to count up the number of books either half read or not yet read in my collection.[:D] I try to read before bed, but fall asleep!!

Dear Edda and Jude . . .
I had a funny feeling that I wasn't the only one . . .
I was talking to my mother who, through changes in circumstances over the years, has been forced to downsize, and she told me that the most difficult things for her to part with have been her precious rock and seashell collections, and her books. In this way I am just like her. She can no longer read as she has advanced macular degeneration, so she orders Talking Books, a completely free service offered by the Institute for the Blind. This has been such a blessing for her the last few years, as her health and independence have declined dramatically.
So it is with gratitude that I impatiently await the arrival of my new book . . .
with love to all fellow book afficianados . . .

ps. Don't you just love the smell of them? So much promise in the fragrance of paper pages . . .

Goodness, such a group of "book worms" we all are!!! [:D][:D]Always such starving little things, wiggling our way in and out of the gourmet pages, feasting on their most choice morsels and then putting them aside as we discover our next gourmet meal. What a gift for all of this family that we chomp through so many differing types of gourmet morsels, thereby having so much more to share with each other.
Sparrow, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Truly, that must have been a most difficult surrender for her. It is such a gift that she now has Talking Books to help her fill the void and transport her to so many new ideas and different worlds. May your and her lives always be filled with the anticipation and fragrance of all that new thoughts, ideas, and tales bring.

Betty, you describe us so perfectly!![:D] that is exactly what I do.

Sparrow, as someone in the very early stages of glaucoma, not being able to read is a real fear for me at the back of my mind. Hopefully it will never come to that. A friend of mine had all her books insured seperately from the rest of her belongings, when she moved house. Nothing else had that special status.
I've got rid of a lot of other things in order to keep room for my books.

I hope so Bernie . . .
My copy of The Translucent Revolution just came in the mail this week, and it is a wonderful book. I can hardly put it down.
