lilsparrow,
i'll share this photo of a part of my journey with you.

this photo helps me to remember that what i do and what i think affects all the living energy around me and that all the energy i put out around  me affects all that i come into contact with as well.

Sparrow, I just read your post with the following
quote:

They say that people who live in cities, and only walk on concrete and asphalt, are soul-deprived . . . I believe this.
and it brought a genuine feeling of sadness and also a tremendous sense of gratitude. It brought to mind all those women whom I have often visited in women's prisons who are living totally on asphalt and concrete. Having journeyed their spiritual paths with many of them and having heard so many of their stories of where they lived and how they grew up your post prompted me to send special prayers to the Holy One for them. I remember helping on a incarcerated men's retreat at a maximum security prison. On Saturday evenings, there was always a small celebration of food. One gentlemen, someone born addicted to drugs at birth, parentally, and who had committed murder as a young adult while on drugs, was in total awe at such "extravagant" food. We had a snack plate which included fresh broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots, little tomatoes and veggie dip. He literally ate himself sick that evening. It was the very first time in his entire life that he had ever had the opportunity to eat fresh veggies and he loved them. Having served about 7 years on death row, the man must have been in his late 20's. Reading your post with the above quote reminded me how truly sad it is that so many millions have no opportunity what so ever to choose not to walk only on concrete and asphalt and don't have the slightest clue of the wholeness and peace provided by nature. Thank you for providing a special moment of gratitude for how much I have been blessed and a reminder to tuck these most forgotten of God into God's loving care.

Beautifully put Betty . . . We are all God's children.
And regarding those less fortunate, including people living in those concrete jungles they call prisons, there but for the grace of God go I. I am so happy you were able to give that bit of pleasure to the men whose lives are so barren.
Dear Thankful one . . .
I love the fog. Fog is one of my most favorite "weathers" in the world. As I scrolled down I was surprised to see a little person walking, which only magnified the beauty and depth of the trees. You are a blessing.
Thank you
with love . . .

Sparrow!! You LOVE fog???

I don't know if it's because we get so much of it, but it definitely isn't one of my favourites. All that wet stuff which makes it hard to breathe! No. But perhaps you love the mystery of it. I can understand that.

Yes Jude . . . I LOVE fog!!!
I think it is about the mystery of it . . . and how it tamps down the sounds of the world . . . and I feel so utterly alone and full of peace with it . . .

T.O. I love the picture and the long woods into the quiet woods. Thank you for posting it.
Jude,Initially my opinion of fog follows yours. There have been many 800 mile drives from Missouri to Georgia
etc through nothing but dense fog.
Sparrow, the "mystery" of fog--the unknown, not being able to see where one is going, so many times using
the description of being in a heavy dense fog as a description of where my own spiritual journey seemed to be at
that particular moment. You have now challenged me to look at it in a new perspective and to journal on the
negative perceptions and feelings I have about it.

Betty, you have just given me an insight as to why I don't like fog, not just because of it's dangers and unpleasantness.
When feeling depressed or unhappy, it feels just like being in a fog. You know things and thoughts are out there, but you can't quite reach them.

Dear All,

I am most grateful tonight, and I am sure you will understand why.
My son, with whom I am staying at present, went up the steeple (or is it spire ?) of St. Stephen´s Cathedral, 170-something metres high. It is under reconstruction, and he went up in an escalator on the outside right to the top, where the cross is, to take photographs from a scaffolding which runs round it. I feel dizzy when only thinking of it! He was very late coing home, and, needless to say, I was scared. So I am the happier now after he has returned, enthusiastic about the adventure!

Love,
Juliana

Dear Juliana,

I can visualize your son's ascend and understand that it made you concerned! I am sure the pictures  from this view overlooking Vienna. turned out fascinating! I am reminded of an old record with Hans Moser (Austrian actor and comedian) who tried to find a room for his friend and had so many detailed requests about the view from the window that the hotel manager told him to inquire at the steeple guard of St. Stephen's Cathedral! I am happy with you that your son is safe!

Much love,
Edda

Juliana, I too am glad with you for your son's safety. I don't think I would want to know about it until such a thing was over.

Dear Betty . . .
Re: the fog . . . I think it is one of those "little paradoxes of life", as you said on another thread . . .

Edda, those little paradoxes of life--how much we welcome the wind on a hot summer's day and yet how much damage storm winds can do, the refreshment of a cold glass of water and its gentle refreshment to parched earth yet the horrors that are created through floods and tsunami's. The old saying-- in paradox we find truth--for every negative there is a positive and vice versa.

I do hate driving in it, but love being in it (key word is being) .
Thank you for the link to your autumn photographs. They are just beautiful~Except in the country we have not had as glorious a fall season as we have in the past. The picture of the pumpkin and bittersweet reminds me that it's time to go out and gather some. For a long time it was illegal to pick bittersweet because it was becoming rare, but now I can go in good conscience and bring home a few sprigs to brighten my mantle.
Dear Juliana . . . Like Jude, I don't think I would want to know of your son's adventure until after it was over!
Dear, dear Jude . . . Do try and re-think the fog . . .  even if only for a moment . . .
with love to all . . .
Have a day full of beauty.
sparrow

I went to the shop to get some bread, and findout a day full of beauty outside.
It is a beautiful autumn day today in my town.I walked slowly dawn the street watching the beauty of autumn leaves on the trees- yellow,red,orange,green...The sun shines gently, not too hot, there is no wind, just the peace in the air...For a few minutes I felt all this beauty of the nature and I felt alive...

Buba,

I am glad for this moment of beauty you experienced!
Do you still have real bakeries, with the smell of fresh bread wafting around it?

This is one thing I miss, real freshly baked bread that tastes wonderful all by itself! The bread I can get here is never quite the same! Still, I am grateful for what we do have!

Sparrow,

Perhaps Jude's  problem is English fog! It is so dense at times that you can't even see a few steps ahead. When I lived outside London a long time ago, I couln't find my way down a garden path!

Edda

Dearest Edda,
your question make me smile, because the point of my post was not a bread,I mentioned that by the way ( as you know ,of course),
but YES we do have real bakeries with freshly baked bread and its beautifull smell makes you hungry! I`d like to post you some, but I am afraid it is not possible?!

Dear Edda . . . I remember really good bakeries from my childhood. There truly is nothing quite like it. Not to digress, but years ago on a television program called "MASH", on one particular episode one of the doctors became obsessed with what goes through a person's mind at the moment of death. A soldier was brought into the medical tent and it was obvious that he was dying. The doctor said, "What are you thinking. What do you feel?" A slow, calm smile broke across the dying soldier's face and he said, "Bread, I smell bread." I thought that was beautiful. Bread is home and hearth and comfort . . .
Maybe we could all bake bread one day one day this winter.
I am happy for your "moment" Buba, and like Jude and Edda am sure that you will have more . . .
I think I understand about your London fog now. I have seen movies of the fog, now that I think of it . . . the streets are dim and shadows climb the walls of buildings . . . Jack the Ripper is lurking in the dark...thanks for your patience. So sorry Jude . . .
with love . . .

betty,
i LOVED your fall pictures. it is hard to pick, but the one with all the pumpkins is my favorite.

lilsparrow,
i have known many people right before they died and many times the last thing they spoke of was a smell that they remember. i would probably remember the smell of my mother or the smell of the woods right after a good rain or the smell of my children when they snuggled me.

buba,
welcome, welcome, welcome.
below is a photo gift to welcome your energy to this forum.
may you feel love and companionship this autumn.

Sparrow, I don't know what you are saying sorry for!  It is many years since we had that sort of fog here, but I do remember them. Muffled up in scarves, not being able to breathe properly.
Being next to 2 rivers we get a lot of sea fog or mist which is not so bad - just cold and wet while a mile away there might be bright sunshine.

juliana,
your post reminds me of as time i visited the nice city of chicago. i told my mom after i got back that i had made the trip.

her reply caught me off guard.

she said, somewhat indignantly, "why didn't you tell me? i could have worried!"

here is some photos of st. stephen's cathedral and the spire your son went up. it looks way high up to me.
