While maintenance work for these reactors is essential for the safety of those working there and everyone and everything in their surrounding, it is unfortunate that this affects the availabilty of radioactive materials needed in patient care in such a serious way.

I'll pray with you that the needed resources will be found so that all patients can receive appropriate care.

Love,

Edda
request for prayers -- radio-active isotopes used in medical research are in short supply (Green_Woman)

I have a prayer intention. It has to do with me but also with many people who suffer from cancer and heart disease all over the world.

There is an old nuclear reactor in Chalk River (Ontario, Canada) that used to provide 40% of the global supply of nuclear isotopes used in diagnosis and treatment of various ailments like cancer and heart disease.

Now the reactor has been shut down for essential repairs at least until early 2010 and doctors are scrambling to use as best they can the remaining isotopes and use other methods (not as accurate, in certain cases). The costs of the procedures are also ballooning (as if anyone needed that).

I do not want to get into politics, but bad decisions were taken and ordinary people will pay the price. I am very angry and worried about this because it may affect me and my chances of survival directly, as well as other people's. Another reactor in the Netherlands is also undergoing maintenance, so the timing is really bad.

Let us concentrate instead on praying for the people who are stuck with the effects of this: the patients and the medical teams, who have a job difficult enough to do as it is. Let us ask the Lord to guide their hand and make the best choices for everyone concerned, and to have a chance to get heard to explain what is going on.
