Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed
That with the sun's love
In the spring
Becomes the rose
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love~and be loved in return♥♥

You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I’m going
You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much I no along the way
Then I heard you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand

I see my life
Flash across the sky
So many times have I
Been so afraid ooh
And just when I
Have thought I’ve lost my way

You give me strength to carry on
That’s when I heard you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand

When I’m weary
Well I no you’ll be there
And I can feel you
When you say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love~and be loved in return♥♥

It's another good-to-see-you Sunday morning
Oh, I hardly hear the words roll off my tongue
Looking in myself for signs of something
That's long gone

Oh, I stumble through a verse that says You love me
As the voices echo my thoughts drift away
And I close my eyes ashamed I'm feelin' nothing
I pray

Heal me
Heal these eyes
Heal this heart
Heal my mind
Breathe Your breath of life
Heal me
Wake my soul
From this sleep
Give me back the joy
Of when I first believed
Heal me

Oh, I lose myself to one more day's indifference
When my eyes are everywhere but fixed on You
I don't have the strength to overcome this distance
But You do
You do

I don't wanna waste another minute
Takin' all Your love for granted
I just wanna feel Your Holy Spirit
Rushing over me

Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli - The Prayer

Pray you'll be our eyes, and watch us where we go.
And help us to be wise in times when we don't know
Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way
Lead us to the place, guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe

La luce che tu hai
I pray we'll find your light
nel cuore resterà
and hold it in our hearts.
a ricordarci che
When stars go out each night,
eterna stella sei

The light you have
I pray we'll find your light
will be in the heart
and hold it in our hearts.
to remember us that
When stars go out each night,
you are eternal star
Nella mia preghiera
Let this be our prayer
quanta fede c'è
when shadows fill our day

How much faith there's
Let this be our prayer
in my prayer
when shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Sognamo un mondo senza più violenza
un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace, di fraternità

We dream a world without violence
a world of justice and faith.
Everyone gives the hand to his neighbours
Symbol of peace, of fraternity
La forza che ci dà
We ask that life be kind
è il desiderio che
and watch us from above
ognuno trovi amor
We hope each soul will find
intorno e dentro sé
another soul to love

The force his gives us
We ask that life be kind
is wish that
and watch us from above
everyone finds love
We hope each soul will find
around and inside
another soul to love
Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer, just like every child

Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

È la fede che
hai acceso in noi,
sento che ci salverà

It's the faith
you light in us
I feel it will save us

Re:music that speaks to me... - 11/15/2009 7:18 AM ( #130 )
When I was ten, my dad took me to see Handel's Messiah (which was very strange now I think about it, because he was an atheist).  When it came to the Hallelujah Chorus, of course everyone stood up.  And I can remember as I listened thinking I would so much love to sing the chorus one day.  And I have thought that every year when I hear it again.

Well, low and behold, the choir I sing with on Tuesday evenings is going to sing the Hallelujah Chorus, and some other beautiful Christmas music, in a cathedral in Newcastle on a Sunday night close to Christmas.  So I have been very busily learning the Bass part (which is actually a Baritone part because it goes up to the E above middle C, and only down to the B an octave below middle C.

So here's a good version of the greatest expression of thanksgiving ever written.

Handel's Hallelujah Chorus

The video isn't interesting unless you want to be able to follow the music on the manuscript, but this version of the chorus is my favorite of all the ones on YouTube.

Enjoy!!

Dear Joe,
I don't think you need to believe in anything to appreciate this wonderful music, or to enjoy singing it. Naturally it makes it more meaningful if you do though.

I sang the whole of the Messiah in the school choir, together with about 20 other school choirs, when I was 14. It left an indelible mark on me too, and although my voice isn't so good I can still sing along with the sopranos!
Strangely, although I have wanted a good copy of the Messiah on tape, record or cd ever since, I only bought it for myself last Christmas, 49 years later........

Enjoy the concert,
Jude

Dear Joe,

Too bad you don't live in Chicago! Every year the Chicago Symphony hosts two
"Sing-along Messiah" performances. The tickets are free and on a first come first served basis. The audience, score in hands, is divided into four sections. I don't sing well enough to try to get a ticket, but this is a most popular event.

Also our church choir has been performing the Messiah for many years, skipping only one. It is performed by candle light with an orchestra of period instruments. Only the soloists are professionals. I have been thrilled by it several times.

I hope you'll have a wonderful experience!

Love,

Edda
Peace and joy!

I wonder if you are another of the many people I meet who say "But I can't sing.  I can hear that I sing off key".  The reality is if you can hear that you aren't singing well then you can sing well, you just don't trust your voice.  Usually it's because someone has said they shouldn't or couldn't sing, usually when they are children.  I run workshops called "Reclaiming my Voice" where I help people who have a wish to sing, but no trust in their voice.  Of course it's a very major issue for survivors of child abuse, because without exception they have been made to keep silent about what was done to them.  Very often taking back the right to be heard can bring great healing.

In any case, if you are among a whole lot of people all singing, who is going to judge you.  Singing is a time when the left side of the brain (logical, language) and the right side (creative, feelings, music) are used together.

There is a saying that the eyes are the mirror of the soul.  Singing is giving expression of the soul to the universe.

Maybe this year you could try.

Dear Joe, the Hallelujah Chorus has always been a favorite.  I am so pleased you are getting the opportunity to finally be part of it.  Isn't it amazing what all those negatives can do to us as children.  In using art and
drawing while directing retreats, so many say they "can't" draw and are not at all creative.  It is always truly gratifying to see the art that is produced to explain feelings by those who "can't" do it because they just are not creative. The joy in your post is so spills over as this dream of yours is finally coming to fruition.
May it truly revive and strengthen your spirit.
Betty

Shalom(May you be at peace in Body, Mind,& Spirit.)

Thank you, Joe, for your encouragement!
You have a point, since those singing loudly off key usually are not aware of it!
I am fine singing along with the congregation at church.
Unfortunately, my current circumstances don't allow me to participate in any evening events.

By the way, the Sing-Along Messiah is officially called the Do-It-Yourself Messiah!

I do this every year,
while cleaning and wrapping presents
(no sacrilige intended ) . . .
I also bring out Odetta's Christmas CD
and Carlo Menotti's 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' . . .
which I used to know by heart,
but still remember well enough to sing along with.
